After a long, cold, quite dreary winter, spring has FINALLY sprung here on the northshore. Azaleas are blooming, the sun is shining and it’s time to get out of the house and enjoy this beautiful weather! There’s a long list of outdoor festivals and activities planned for the month of April. Here are a few of my favorite picks.
The City of Covington is bringing back the popular live music series “Rockin’ the Rails”. I enjoyed these free outdoor concerts so much back in the fall; I’m glad to see them return. Held at the Covington Trailhead, the intent is to lure people into downtown Covington on a weeknight for a fabulous free show of live music, and then hopefully entice them to stay for a nice dinner at one of Covington’s great restaurants. Nice concept. And it works! That’s exactly what I did during the fall and I’m looking forward to repeating that every Thursday in April. The music is exceptionally good. There are a few northshore favorites included in the line-up, but also some southshore...

Well, as if we didn't have enough going on during the non-stop party that was February, it's on to spring now and the next fabulous phase on the northshore. There is no rest for the weary in March! Keep that momentum moving into a month filled with fun. March is jam-packed with all sorts of things to get into. There’s something for everyone.
My favorite pick of the month to attend with my family is the Habitat for Humanity Breakfast at Tiffany's Annual Brunch and Bowl Event. On March 7, I will head to Tiffany Lanes in Mandeville with the Campbell’s in tow for an event that will please everyone in our family. The fun starts at 11:30. There's music, dancing and an array of brunch items offered, so there is something available for everyone in my hungry group! The bowling goes on until 2:30. This is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West, but also a great opportunity to educate my kids about what Habitat does and the difference it is making in our community. Habitat,...

What an incredible time to be living in southern Louisiana! The Saints have finally made it to the Superbowl, parades are rolling…does it get any better than this? The world is watching and green with envy as New Orleans, the northshore and basically the entire state of Louisiana, enjoys this wild ride! If we can endure the partying and make it through the month without spontaneously combusting, it may be one of the most memorable February’s of our lives.
In addition to: seeing any of the 1,200 floats that will be rolling, hearing the 600 bands that will be proudly marching their way down the street, and taking advantage of the insurmountable opportunities to tailgate, there are a few other events you and your family may want to check out this month.
On February 19, at 7:00pm the Greater Covington Center’s Fuhrmann Auditorium will be the host for a unique concert experience. Local producer Jeff Falkenstein and J&M Productions welcomes Glen Phillips and...

OK, northshore. Christmas is over. The tree is down and out of the house and all the ornaments and decorations are neatly tucked away in the attic. Now what? Playoffs and parades! That’s what!
In southern Louisiana, a celebration is hardly over and we are already planning our next party. This year there is no time to spare! With a Fat Tuesday date of February 16 in 2010, it is time to finalize your game plan for fun and festivities!
The Covington/Mandeville area will have to wait until February to see any real parade action; however, the City of Slidell gets things rolling right away with the four parades in January.
The Krewe of Claude kicks off the carnival season in Slidell on Sunday, January 17 at 1:00 pm. The following weekend the fun continues with the Krewe of Slidellians on Sunday, January 24 at 1:00. The Krewe of Bilge Boat Parade will be parading in 2010 for its 31st year throughout the waterways of St Tammany Parish....

Season’s Greetings, northshore! I’m so excited to welcome the month of December and all the festivities that come along this time of year. Like many of us, I love the holidays and the spirit of the season that fills the air. The sights and sounds of the holidays evoke memories of Christmases past and inspire me to fill these next few weeks with holiday filled activities, to ensure more happy memories made with my family and friends.
The northshore provides me again this year with every opportunity to embrace the season and participate in an array of events sure to bring on that warm and fuzzy feeling I associate with December. With all the hustle and bustle, it will be impossible to do it all, but I’m going to give it my best try.
There’s no better way to get yourself in the spirit of the season than by listening to Christmas music! The St. Timothy United Methodist Church Choir will perform their annual concert, Christmas on the Northshore, December 13 and 14. ...

The northshore once again delivers with a long list of fantastic things to do this month! As we wind down from the festival season and gear up for the holidays, mark your calendars! There is a great variety of entertainment ahead for November.
Marking this season is an event that is truly a party with a purpose. As Thanksgiving approaches and we plan our menus for grand, fabulous meals with family and friends, it is important to remember so many others who are less fortunate.
The Harvest Moon Dance provides just that opportunity. Benefitting the Covington Food Bank, this event now in its 7th year, has become a fall tradition to ring in the very beginning of the holiday season and provide much needed funding for one of our areas most worthy and vital services. The dance will be November 7th from 7:00-12:00 in the Castine Center at Pelican Park. There’s live music provided by Bobby Cure and the Summertime Blues, and, of course, lots of dishes to dine on along with an...

Fall is finally officially here. With the warm welcome of cooler temperatures and overall beautiful weather to look forward to, I am also anticipating some fantastic opportunities to hear live, local music in October.
Whether your tastes are classic, Cajun, funky New Orleans brass or soulful blues, the northshore has it all this month. With On The Seen, I’ll be jamming and jiving to some top-notch talent across the area.
For a unique experience here on the northshore, check out Opera On Tap. On October 28, members of the New Orleans Opera will be participating in a casual performance at the Abita Brew Pub. I attended the opera’s first performance there last month and it was just a fantastic experience. The amount of talent represented, of course, was astounding. Their voices resounded through the Brew Pub and filled every inch of the place with bold, beautiful music. But equally enchanting was the venue itself. Something about seeing and hearing these musicians...

I don’t like to miss a thing. If there is something eventful happening on the northshore chances are you’re going to see me. Festivals, special events, fundraisers, farmer’s market – you name it, I’m there! There’s only one thing I love as much as being out and about all over this northshore, and that is letting everyone know about the fabulous things we have happening here. I’ve made it a full time job keeping myself informed of what’s going on around me in my community and now I’ll be sharing it with you.
